GoDaddy is one of the Top three established brands in the hosting and domain industry. The company was started as an only Domain registry but now is providing various services. You might have come across their various ads surfing on the internet and TV.

They have a total of 80 million domains registered worldwide. They have 20 million hosting customers. They are so big that every 1 out of 20 websites is hosted on Godaddy. In 2020, they have earned revenue of $2.23 billion. They spend 15% of their revenue amount on marketing and advertising.

Are this huge revenue and a million customers can justify their hosting services? From the outside through ads, they look very flashy and reliable. But we have done our research on Godaddy whether they are good for you or not.

Our whole research is conducted by our experts, reviews from readers, and reviews on other websites. So, before purchasing your Godaddy hosting, let understand that their services, offering, and features. So, let’s get started.

Performance (Rating:4.0)

Godaddy being the biggest Domain and hosting provider has provided decent hosting speed. It always amazed me that, despite earning $2.23 billion every year, how can they have just decent speed. It looks like a Scam to me.

Among many different hosting providers, Godaddy has 9 data centers all around the world. Having multiple locations data centers guarantees you a faster Site loading time. Their average site loading time stands at 1.87 Sec.

This loading speed looks decent, but it is not worth losing around 27% of website visitors. These Visitors can bounce back with your 1.87 sec. Also, they don’t have any speed optimizer in case your website becomes heavy.

Having 9 Datacenters worldwide shows that their hosting server is fast but not site speed. There are many reasons for this “Decent” speed like they don’t have a server-side caching system. Server Caching system makes sure your website loads faster.

Also, they lack an Open proxy server like NGINX which helps to save the memory of your web pages. This enables anyone to load the site faster when web content is already saved as a memory.

But still, this loading time is very considerable to operate a website. For branded website, this loading time would mean nothing because your audience will wait for your brand.

Uptime (Rating:4.0)

As we have already discussed earlier that Godaddy has 9 data centers worldwide. This data center ensures a faster hosting server. This means their Uptime must be great. As we have tested, their uptime stands at 99.91% which is good.

But industry-standard uptime is 99.93%. well, 0.02% looks a lot less difference to tell. Yeah, I know it wouldn’t make much difference. But uptime means how many times your website was active on the internet in a year.

That means their Server was down many times in a year. Our readers even claimed that their server gets down during peak days or festival days. So, your 0.02% still makes difference to anyone.

But they are improving it by introducing new servers like Bare Metal which can give great speed and Long Lasting Uptime. If you are starting new, this Uptime is too good for you.

Security (Rating:1.8)

20 million hosting customers tell us that Godaddy has great security. They used to have good security features and tools. But I think that they have not decided to change your offering.

Earlier, you have to purchase various tools like backups, SSL, and CDN. Now, many hosting providers are giving Free Backups, SSL, and CDN to attract customers. It has become a norm to give security features and tools for FREE. But Godaddy has not come out of Nostalgia.

They are offering all these Free Security features and tools for a price. For 5 GB Backups, you must pay $3. NO Free SSL, NO Free CDN, NO Good Security. Also, while purchasing hosting, look at purchasing checkout points. Godaddy will automatically Opt-in on various things for no reason.

These Automatically Opt-in options can increase your cost by 200%. If you purchase their hosting, there are chances that you will face security issues like 404 errors. Some users get their whole hosting cancelled without any refund. GoDaddy even doesn’t provide any explanation on such issues.

Features (Rating:3.2)

It will be a little bit unfair to say that Godaddy doesn’t offer many features. They have collectively been providing various features to their hosting.

Godaddy has 125+ free app integrations on their hosting like Google apps, Jetpack, and many more. Many developers need many friendly tools like CloudLinux, cPanel, PHP, etc. these tools give developers the power of customization to improve their website.

Even though they have many features available for us, but their offering is very less. Their basic security costs us money for an economy plan. You already know that they don’t provide SSL, backup, or CDN for Free.

Even for Website builder tools that are free in various hosting, Godaddy charges $9.99/mo. It sounds like they are more interested in Only money making and not in providing good services.

Support (Rating:3.0)

Being a Giant Hosting provider and having around 20 million hosting customers. Godaddy should have a good customer support infrastructure. Good customer support gives a superpower to any hosting provider.

Customer support helps you to regain customer trust and provide a solution to their problems. Godaddy has many customer support channels like Live chat, phone, emails, SMS (for US audience).

Earlier, Godaddy used to have good customer support. They were very quick in answering your questions. They even have detailed support materials and blogs. These blogs are enough to inform you of any subject matter of hosting.

But for 3-4 years, their customer support value is degrading. It may be due to 20 million customers but as a big hosting provider, I think they should have more staff for support. If they want to maintain that many customers on their hosting, they must invest in their customer support.

There is one thing I have noticed about them. Recently, I was checking about GoDaddy’s customer reviews. It was shocking that Godaddy is answering only positive comments about them. There were around 90% negative comments on their services, but they just ignore their problems and focuses on positive comments only.

Value for Money (Rating:3.2)

Godaddy could be great for only beginners. If you are a professional or serious blogger, considering GoDaddy as your hosting provider could be your mistake. GoDaddy’s initial offer price is very low, but its renewal price is very high in comparison to its hosting offerings.

Like you have to pay for backups like $2.99/month or basic website security for $5.99/month for the Economy plan. For me, spending that much money on a few features and offerings could be a loss deal. Even though they have good speed and Uptime but that is not the only thing to see.

Even if you purchase GoDaddy hosting, you get 30 day moneyback guarantee which sounds confusing. Initially, they will work according to what you have paid but after that, they will decrease their quality of service which is concerning for me.

In their 30 day moneyback guarantee, you will not get any full refund in 30 days. For the initial 7 days, there are chances to get a full refund (of course, they will cut the cost of domain names). But after that, you will not get any full refund and if you ask their customer support, this is their “company policy”.

So, it is very easy to say that GoDaddy hosting is not Value for money Hosting. I suggest you should choose our recommended hostings, but they read about them first.

Hosting Pros (Detailed review)

Now that we have covered our important points about Godaddy, let’s talk about their pros and cons. There are many pros and cons which we have not covered in the previous segments. So, let’s jump on it.

Uptime up to 99.91%

Having 9 data centers worldwide, hosting servers are very fast. Their Uptime is less than industry Standard Uptime at 99.93%. Even though they have good uptime. Many times, their servers get down for several hours in a day.

Many customers have claimed that their servers are not reliable during festive days. This downtime can cost so many conversions and revenue. But apart from normal days, they are very useful if you are just a beginner.

Decent Speed

Godaddy loading time stands at 1.87 sec. it is a very decent speed considering many hosting offers speed at 500ms -1s. They are working their best to improve their speed. Their hosting is present in 9 data centers across the world.

High Storage at low cost

Well, Godaddy is good at providing high storage at a low cost. You will read that many hosting providers offer unlimited storage on their hosting, but these “unlimited” even have some limits.

As you can see, they have a large customer database. Their pricing is also good for the initial audience and if you want high storage to get started in your blogging journey, they are great with their high storage.

Window-based hosting

Godaddy offers Window-based hosting. Well, this might not sound like a great feature, but it has its use case. Unlike Linux hosting, which is also known as shared hosting, Windows-based hosting uses the window as its server operator.

This hosting is very useful to create window-specific systems and offers technologies like ASP. NET, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server. We have 80% of the population using a window as an operating system on their laptop. These specifications give you the power to optimize or offer your services for a Windows operating system.

Hosting cons (Detailed review)

Now that we have explained our best of the best of Godaddy hosting. We will discuss the worst of the worst of Godaddy hosting. Let’s have a look at it.

Unsecure & Unreliable

Godaddy seems bigger and better from the outside. You might have seen their ads on TV and the Internet about their services. As far as we researched and test them, we have found them very Unsecure and unreliable.

Many customers have claimed that even after purchasing their basic security features, they will not provide any security to the website. Your website got hacked or your hosting subscription get cancelled due to unwanted reasons.

Charging for basic service is not something a good hosting provider will do. So, if your website security is more important to you than anything else, don’t choose Godaddy.

Terrible Support

Godaddy was awarded “Best Customer Support” in its hosting service. But I don’t think that This award will justify their terrible customer support. Even for a piece of basic information, you have to wait at least 30-40 minutes to get their response.

These things are very risky if you are having a terrible problem and they reply to you after the problem causes enough damage. Being a giant hosting company, their staff looks less knowledgeable and more terrible. So, their terrible customer support makes it less appealing for their hosting.

In 2010, one of the world’s most used WordPress theme development companies, iThemes even have a whole blog describing “Why Godaddy hosting is very worse for their service and support”.

No Ethics

Many stories are surfing on the internet that if you ever search domain names on Godaddy, you will never get it on other platforms. Yes, if you search domain names on GoDaddy, Godaddy tends to purchase and overcharge the domains.

This Unethical practice will make any company less appealing. They even get into controversy due to their highly sexualized ads like Super bowl. These types of ads show their desperation of acquiring customers at any cost. It degrades their image as a hosting provider.

No Free Site Migration

Yes, you have heard right. Godaddy doesn’t provide free site migration. I know that much hosting company doesn’t provide free site migration, but they will charge you less.

To migrate a site in Godaddy, you have to pay $99.99/website and it will easily take 7-10 days to get transferred.

Lots of Upsells

Uh-oh, it is very frustrating that Godaddy does a lot of upsells. I meanwhile purchasing their hosting, why do they have to automatically Opt-in for various features and services which I don’t need.

This practice has cost many people and they tend to lose trust in Godaddy. These unnecessary Upsells like $75/year for an SSL certificate and $60/year per email are not worth the cost or value to purchase.

High Renewal rates

GoDaddy has very less initial pricing. I look lucrative at first. But when you try to renew your hosting, then, it gets very difficult and costly. For a free domain, you have to pay $23/year for Domain renewal. Even their renewal rates of hosting get costly by 3-4 times.

For a simple Whole Privacy, it will cost you $14.99/year. So, it is very unlikely that you will be motivated to run your website after their high-cost renewal plan.

GoDaddy Hosting pricing

GoDaddy provides many types of hosting plans. These hosting plans are different from each other due to extra features, functionality, and offers. They have Web hosting, Business hosting, VPS hosting, Dedicated Server hosting, and eCommerce hosting.

Let’s understand them one by one in detail.

Shared Web hosting

Shared hosting is a low-cost and popular option that allows multiple websites to be hosted on a single server. We will share all resources, features, and offers provided by the hosting provider. They have 4 plans in shared web hosting: Economy, Deluxe, Ultimate, and Maximum. All these plans come in 12 months and 36 months periods. Here, we will talk about 36 months period plans.

The economy plan is very cheap and an economical option while choosing this plan. they are priced at $5.99/month with 3 years term. In this plan, we will get 25 GB storage, 10 databases, 1 Website with standard performance, unmetered bandwidth, and free 1 click WordPress installation. With that, they are also offering free domain worth $11.99/yr and Free Microsoft 365 Email worth $23.88/yr for 1 year.

Deluxe is a good option for those who have multiple websites and need a cheap alternative. In their 3 yr term plan, it will cost you $7.99/mo. You will get 10 websites with the best performance, 50 GB storage, 25 databases, unmetered bandwidth, and one-click WordPress. You will have the same free domain and Microsoft 365 Email for free.

This hosting doesn’t have multiple plans. For 3 yr term, it will cost you $15.99/mo initially. After you renew, it will be $24.9/mo which is costly for an online store. You will also get free email accounts, free domain, CDN boost for fast loading speed, 1 click staging, malware scans, and Virus remover, and SEO optimizer for unique visitors and high traffic. They have built their own payments system “Poynt”. It is a GoDaddy payment for seamless payments, simple setup, and next day business payouts. They also have various third-payments solutions but try their payment provider once.

Now, we are moving to the next 2 hosting helpful for high-end users: VPS and Dedicated Hosting. Remember that they have two categories in that: – self-managed and fully managed. Self-managed is when you control the system and have to work on that. Fully managed is when an expert helps you with all the tech stuff so that you can work on the business. You will have every resource included which will be not available to self-managed users.

We will only talk about self-managed servers because fully managed might you cost too much.

VPS Hosting

VPS hosting gives you full control of your hosting environment. You will have Root access, Command line, flexibility, and power. You will have your own server controlling the use of every resource available to you. It gives you options for scalable performance with server configurations. You own operating controls and automatic daily backups. They are a better option rather than shared web hosting.

Before telling any price plans. remember that they have SSD-powered high-performance experience, Unlimited hosting accounts, cPanel, WordPress toolkit, root access, performance monitoring and security alerts, auto weekly backups and recovery, Global data centers, Scalability (on-demand increase in storage and CPU), and advanced DDoS protection and security.

If you are a Tech developer or system administrator who has experience in managing a server. It is definitely for you. You can use it for hosting things like

  • Ecommerce where you have high traffic website and create the site on heavy systems like Magento.
  • Handling multiple sites of clients and need an All in One Solution.
  • set up your own Web server and database server.
  • Heavy Applications like CRM, video streaming, social media, etc.
  • Running your own Email server and multiple email accounts for your businesses and clients.
  • Testing your applications and websites in any continent and their performance and response time.

It has standard RAM and High RAM which are no different but storage. They just vary in storage. If you are purchasing VPS hosting, it is advisable to purchase High RAM hosting because more RAM gives more processing power and great performance. By purchasing standard hosting, you will save on cost but will lose on sales and website performance.

For Self-managed High RAM Hosting

Hosting Plans 1 vCPU 2 vCPU 4 vCPU 8 vCPU
CPU Core 1 2 4 8
RAM 2 GB 8 GB 16 GB 32 GB

Additional IP upon Request 1 2 3 3
Operating System Linux Only All All All
Pricing $9.99/mo $29.99/mo $49.99/mo $99.99/mo

Dedicated Hosting

Dedicated Hosting is used for critical, sensitive, and Intensive types of Applications and Websites. They rent you a very dedicated server with exclusive rights and access to all isolated resources and control over changing any functionality of the server.

It is used for High-end technologies and Heavy software Startups. Some applications need Excessive workloads and Raw processing power like Online Gaming, Live streaming, communication apps, business applications like CRM and DATA analytics. If you are also working on things like Big DATA, Machine learning, Infrastructure Virtualization, game development, and server clusters. Use dedicated hosting.

With bare metal servers, they have full processing power to improve page load speed. Very reliable built-in security. It is very critical hosting for heavy resources with sensitive information applications. They have two kinds of hosting categories – HDD and SSD NVMe.

HDD is primarily used for high load or capacity hosting. You will get more storage than SSD. But SSD has its advantage. In SSD, you will have half of the storage which is not reasonable. But they have more than 25x faster speed than HDD. It is the advantage that made SSD type lucrative. Because you need speed or performance of the website than its storage.

So, here is a table of Self-managed SSD NVMe dedicated hosting.
